PFLAG OCC Upcoming Events:

April 8 PFLAG Support Meeting by Zoom 6-8 pm by Zoom Email pflagocc@gmail.com to receive a Zoon invitation for 6-8 pm on Wed., April 8. Gather with PFLAG friends (or strangers) for mutual support and encouragement during these times of extreme isolation or confinement with unsympathetic family. We are all in this together—even if we can’t actually hug.

April 22 Lincoln County Proclamation of Upstanders’ Week For many years Lincoln County Commissioners have proclaimed the 4th week in April as Upstanders’ Week in recognition of PFLAG’s long-time commitment to bully prevention, LGBTQ community education, and support for marginalized LGBTQ youth and adults. Upstanders Week is timed to coordinate with the National Day of Silence on the 4th Friday of April.

April 24 25th Annual Day of Silence On Friday, April 24th, thousands of students across the country will be participating in the 25th Annual Day of Silence – which will now be a virtually-centered event. Day of Silence is a national student led protest of the silencing and erasure of LGBTQ people. Join us as we take over social media channels to continue our activism in fighting for LGBTQ inclusion and dignity of LGBTQ students! Oregon Central Coast PFLAG Scholarships Deadline: April 30, 2020

DESCRIPTION

Oregon Central Coast PFLAG GSA Scholarships are awarded to honor and encourage Lincoln County students for their service to the lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender/queer community. Scholarships may be used for post-secondary education at accredited institutions – colleges, universities, and trade schools. The application for the scholarship can be found at this link.

REQUIREMENTS

Before you apply, review the complete eligibility requirements. – Have demonstrated service to the LGBTQ community (applicants of all sexual orientations and gender identities are eligible); and – Volunteered or worked for an organization (such as a GSA, PFLAG, or Upstander’s Club) that serves the LGBTQ community – Will finish high school in Lincoln County, Oregon in 2020 – Have been accepted or currently attend an accredited postsecondary institution—college, university, or vocational school.

Evaluation

LGBTQ community service is the primary evaluation criterion. We will also consider leadership qualities, hardship, or special circumstances, as well as academic achievement, so include those in your essay if they relate to you.
